Hi everyone!
The Scandi Cushion – Winter Edition is a part of the Scandi pillow series, designed with the timeless mosaic crochet technique. Using simple single and double crochet stitches, this pillow cover features a geometric pattern inspired by Scandinavian minimalism, bringing both elegance and coziness to any home.
As part of the Timeless Symmetry collection, this design reflects the beauty of clean lines, structured motifs, and balanced textures. The pattern is available in one size but can be easily adjusted to fit different pillow dimensions.
Why "Winter Edition"? Each version of the Scandi Cushion embodies a different seasonal mood. The Winter Edition captures the stillness and serenity of the colder months, reflected in its design and color choices. You can read more about the inspiration behind this piece in the Inspiration section below.
This pillow cover is perfect for adding warmth, texture, and a refined aesthetic to your living space, seamlessly blending into a modern and cozy home.
Inspiration
This pillow is woven with the spirit of three special holidays, bringing together warmth, coziness, and the joy of winter celebrations. Its pattern tells a tale of festive magic, where each stripe carries a unique meaning and mood:
The First Stripe – Christmas.
A stripe filled with the warmth of family traditions, the scent of freshly baked cookies, and the glow of candlelight. The red represents stockings hanging by the fireplace, cozy sweaters with Nordic patterns, and ribbons on beautifully wrapped gifts, while the white symbolizes the crisp snow outside and the softness of a blanket you want to curl up in on a holiday evening.
The Second Stripe – New Year’s Eve.
This stripe captures the magic of a fresh start, the excitement of fireworks lighting up the sky, and the sparkle of festive lights. Red embodies the energy of celebrations, the glimmer of party decorations, and the thrill of making wishes at midnight, while white reflects the blank slate of the new year, the feeling of renewal, and the fresh, crisp air of winter nights.
The Third Stripe – Valentine’s Day.
A stripe devoted to love and tenderness, to shared moments and heartwarming connections. Red represents the excitement of love, heartfelt confessions, blooming roses, and handwritten valentines, while white evokes the purity of emotions, the softness of an embrace, and the gentle warmth of affection.
This pillow is a reminder of how winter brings us together in moments of happiness, wrapping us in celebration and love.
About Yarn
For this project, I used Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek, which comes in skein of 232 yards (213 meters) and weighs 142 grams (5 oz). Made from 100% Low Pill Acrylic, this yarn is a perfect choice for creating projects like pillowcases, where softness and a gentle touch against the skin are key. Its lightweight structure ensures your creations are both comfortable and stylish, making it an excellent option for cozy home décor.
Mosaic Crochet Techniques
Mosaic crochet simplifies the creation of intricate and colorful patterns by utilizing a combination of single crochet stitches and drop-down double crochet stitches. With this technique, you work the single crochet stitches in the back loop, which creates a textured effect, while the drop-down double crochet stitches are used to form the design elements. This method allows for flexibility in color changes and produces visually captivating results.
How To Read Stitch Chart
In mosaic crochet, the chart is read from right to left for each round. Each round alternates between colors, as specified in the left column. A is a white color, B is a green color. The entire round is worked in the designated color, You will not change color throughout a round. A blank box signifies a single crochet in the back loop only (blo), while an X indicates a drop-down double crochet stitch.

How to Change The Color
Construction & Schematic
The instruction for the Scandi Cushion includes ONE size for pillow: 20"x20" (50х50 cm).
This pattern is also very easy to ADJUST so you can customize the size to be perfect for you!
- To adjust the length: The pattern is worked in multiples of 8 stitches
- If you want to adjust the height, you need to add extra rounds in groups of 6 (repeating rounds 4 to 9 from the chart) to keep the design looking correct. For reference, the motif repeat is enclosed within the red frames in the chart, clearly marking the structure of the pattern. This means that whenever you need to adjust the height, you can repeat rows 4-9 in full sets to keep the design consistent.

Video
In this video tutorial, I’ll show you how to crochet the Scandi Pillowcase using the round mosaic technique. We’ll start by reviewing the supplies before diving into the crochet process. You’ll learn the exact number of chains to begin with and how to make a small swatch for practice.
I’m using a different yarn in the video because the original yarn apparently decided to retire early—it ran out before I could even film! But don’t worry, the technique works the same.
The video will cover the first 9 rows of the mosaic pattern, which is all you need to get the hang of it, since the whole pattern repeats from row 4 to row 9.
