Scandi Spring Cushion - Crochet Pattern

Hi everyone!

The Scandi Cushion – Spring Edition is a part of the Scandi series, designed with the timeless mosaic crochet technique. Made with simple single and double crochet stitches, its geometric pattern is inspired by Scandinavian minimalism — where elegance meets comfort, and every detail is intentional.

As part of the Timeless Symmetry collection, this design reflects the beauty of clean lines, structured motifs, and balanced textures. Yet, through its soft pink and white colorway, it also embraces the spirit of Blossom Harmony — a reflection of spring’s gentle awakening, floral inspiration, and the poetry of seasonal transitions. The pattern is available in one size but can be easily adjusted to fit different pillow dimensions.

So, why Spring Edition?
Each variation of the Scandi Cushion reflects a seasonal story. The Spring Edition captures the delicate transition between winter and spring — a moment of calm, subtle change, and quiet renewal. Soft pink and white hues evoke the first blossoms and lingering snow, creating a palette that feels both fresh and timeless. You can read more about the inspiration behind this piece in the Inspiration section below.

Whether styled on a modern sofa or in a cozy reading nook, this pillow brings both structure and softness — a perfect blend of geometry and bloom, tradition and seasonality.

Inspiration

This pillow is a celebration of spring’s gentle arrival — a season of renewal, bloom, and soft transformation. Its pattern is woven like a quiet journey from the stillness of winter into the blossoming beauty of spring. The two central stripes mark this moment of transition, where one season quietly gives way to another.

The First Stripe – Winter’s Farewell.
A stripe filled with serenity, peaceful snow-covered mornings, and the hush of a resting world. The white symbolizes the last blankets of snow, the clarity of cold air, and the quiet reflections of winter’s end. The dusty pink hints at the first warm rays of sunlight, the stirring of life beneath the surface, and the warmth beginning to return.

The Second Stripe – Spring’s First Breath.
This stripe embodies the awakening — the sound of birds returning, the scent of blossoms, and the joy of longer days. Pink becomes bolder, representing blooming petals, fresh hope, and the soft colors of springtime skies. White remains as a thread of continuity, a reminder that all seasons flow gently into each other.

This pillow captures that magical in-between — when everything is still soft, slow, and full of promise. It’s a piece of spring in your home, a gentle whisper of what’s to come.

About Yarn

For this project, I used Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek, which comes in skein of 232 yards (213 meters) and weighs 142 grams (5 oz). Made from 100% Low Pill Acrylic, this yarn is a perfect choice for creating projects like pillowcases, where softness and a gentle touch against the skin are key. Its lightweight structure ensures your creations are both comfortable and stylish, making it an excellent option for cozy home décor.

Mosaic Crochet Techniques

Mosaic crochet simplifies the creation of intricate and colorful patterns by utilizing a combination of single crochet stitches and drop-down double crochet stitches. With this technique, you work the single crochet stitches in the back loop, which creates a textured effect, while the drop-down double crochet stitches are used to form the design elements. This method allows for flexibility in color changes and produces visually captivating results.

How To Read Stitch Chart

In mosaic crochet, the chart is read from right to left for each round. Each round alternates between colors, as specified in the left column. A is a white color, B is a pink color. The entire round is worked in the designated color, You will not change color throughout a round. A blank box signifies a single crochet in the back loop only (blo), while an X indicates a drop-down double crochet stitch.

How to Change The Color

Construction & Schematic

The instruction for the Scandi Cushion includes ONE size for pillow: 20"x20" (50х50 cm).

This pattern is also very easy to ADJUST so you can customize the size to be perfect for you!

  • To adjust the length: The pattern is worked in multiples of 8 stitches
  • If you want to adjust the height, you need to add extra rounds in groups of 6 (repeating rounds 4 to 9 from the chart) to keep the design looking correct. For reference, the motif repeat is enclosed within the red frames in the chart, clearly marking the structure of the pattern. This means that whenever you need to adjust the height, you can repeat rows 4-9 in full sets to keep the design consistent.

In this video tutorial, I’ll show you how to crochet the Scandi Cushion using the round mosaic technique. We’ll start by reviewing the supplies before diving into the crochet process. You’ll learn the exact number of chains to begin with and how to make a small swatch for practice.

The video will cover the first 9 rows of the mosaic pattern, which is all you need to get the hang of it, since the whole pattern repeats from row 4 to row 9.
