Hi everyone!
The Maze Laptop Sleeve is a crochet case made with the mosaic crochet technique, using simple single and double crochet stitches. Its bold, maze-like design reflects the beauty of symmetry and clean geometry, making it a timeless and modern accessory. The pattern is written for one size, but you can easily adjust it to fit any laptop or tablet.
This sleeve blends practicality with style, keeping your laptop safe while adding a touch of handmade artistry to your everyday moments.

About Yarn
For this sleeve, I experimented with different yarns — including a recycled no-name yarn that feels like a 2 mm cotton cord. I loved the result, as it gave the piece a sturdy, textured look.
But I especially enjoy making this design with 100% cotton. In fact, when I tried the combination of Drops Safran (50 g / 160 m | 1.8 oz / 175 yards) and Drops Muskat (50 g / 100 m | 1.8 oz / 109 yards), it was love at first stitch. The way these two yarns work together creates a fabric that is crisp in definition, soft to the touch, and beautifully structured — everything I wanted this sleeve to embody.
Durable yet elegant, cotton makes the sleeve not only practical but also timeless, perfect for everyday use as a laptop cover.
You can, of course, use any yarn you already have and love — don’t be afraid to experiment! Each fiber brings its own texture and character to the pattern, making your sleeve truly unique.
I also recommend these cotton yarn alternatives. Choose yarns that provide good stitch definition and enough structure for mosaic crochet:
- Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton (DK) – mercerized cotton with a smooth finish, durable and vibrant in color.
- Scheepjes Catona (Fingering/DK) – soft, glossy mercerized cotton, perfect for crisp stitches.
- Yarn Bee Sugarwheel Cotton – cotton blend with light softness, adds a gentle drape.
When substituting, make sure to check your gauge and adjust the hook size if necessary, so the sleeve fits your laptop or tablet.
Mosaic Crochet Techniques
Mosaic crochet simplifies the creation of intricate and colorful patterns by utilizing a combination of single crochet stitches and drop-down double crochet stitches. With this technique, you work the single crochet stitches in the back loop, which creates a textured effect, while the drop-down double crochet stitches are used to form the design elements. This method allows for flexibility in color changes and produces visually captivating results.
How To Read Stitch Chart
In mosaic crochet, the chart is read from right to left for each round. Each round alternates between colors, as specified in the left column. A is a white color, B is a pink color. The entire round is worked in the designated color, You will not change color throughout a round. A blank box signifies a single crochet in the back loop only (blo), while an X indicates a drop-down double crochet stitch.
Schematic + Sizing
This pattern is a “made to measure” style, meaning it can be customized to any size using your own measurements and preferred yarn.
A motif repeat is the smallest repeating unit of the pattern.
In this design, one repeat = 12 stitches wide × 16 rounds tall (Rounds 4–19).
By adding or subtracting repeats, you can easily adjust the sleeve to match the size of your laptop or tablet.
Gauge (one motif repeat):
≈ 5.5 cm (2.2") wide × 9 cm (3.5") tall.
Example (MacBook Pro 14")
Measurement A (Width) = 22 cm / 8.7" → foundation chain (multiple of 12)
Measurement B (Length) = 32 cm / 12.6"
Step 1: Calculate Width (A)
Divide your Measurement A by the motif repeat width (5.5 cm / 2.2").
22 cm ÷ 5.5 cm ≈ 4 repeats
8.7" ÷ 2.2" ≈ 4 repeats
4 × 12 stitches = 48 stitches (foundation chain)
Step 2: Calculate Length (B)
Divide your Measurement B by the motif repeat height (9 cm / 3.5").
32 cm ÷ 9 cm ≈ 3.5 repeats
12.6" ÷ 3.5" ≈ 3.5 repeats
3.5 × 16 rounds ≈ 56 rounds
This way, you can easily adapt the pattern to any laptop or tablet size. Just measure your device, do the math, and the sleeve will fit perfectly.
Chart
This mosaic pattern is a “neverending” pattern which makes the laptop sleeve adjustable in multiples of 12 and repeat rows 4-19 (in red frame).
Looking at the chart, you will be reading each row from right to left. Each box represents a stitch.
All Drop-Down DC stitches are marked with an “X” and all SC BLO stitches are blank.
Pattern of 12 repeats 8 times in a 96 stitch laptop sleeve.
Video
In this video tutorial, I’ll show you how to crochet the Maze Laptop Sleeve using the round mosaic technique. The video will cover the first 19 rounds of the mosaic pattern, which is all you need to get the hang of it, since the whole pattern repeats from round 4 to round 19.

Gauge
23 Stitches and 19 rows equal to 4″ (10 cm) using a 3.0 mm (US C) crochet hook in the mosaic pattern.
If you use a different yarn or hook size, be sure to make a swatch first to check your gauge and adjust the number of stitches as needed to match your desired measurements.
