Hi, everyone!
The Flower Sweater is the perfect lightweight layer for those lovely spring and summer days. It’s just right for breezy afternoons, delightful boat outings, or simply lounging by the beach. This airy pullover is thoughtfully crafted by seaming together four cozy panels, creating a relaxed, long-sleeve, boat-neck sweater that feels like a warm hug.
Made from 100% cotton yarn, it’s soft, breathable, and incredibly versatile—making it an adorable cover-up over your favorite swimsuit or a comfy throw-on for any sunny adventure.
The sleeves and body panels are lovingly stitched together, and after a few wears, you’ll notice it gently stretches and becomes even more relaxed and drapey, inviting you to wrap yourself in its comforting embrace!

About Yarn
For this project, I used Alize Bella (100g / 360m or 3.5 oz /393 yards). This 100% Mercerized Cotton yarn has a gorgeous matte finish and is of exceptional quality. It provides a breathable, soft texture that is perfect for creating a relaxed and drapey garment.
I also recommend these cotton yarn alternatives:
- Lion Brand Yarn 24/7 Cotton DK Yarn (100% Mercerized Cotton, 100g / 250m or 3.5 oz / 273 yards): A great choice for its vibrant colors, durability, and easy care. (I’ll be crocheting my next flower sweater with this yarn!)
- Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/4 (100% Cotton, 50g / 170m or 1.75 oz / 186 yards): A soft and lightweight yarn that comes in a wide range of colors, ideal for garments and accessories.
- Patons Grace (100% Mercerized Cotton, 50g / 136m or 1.75 oz / 150 yards): A soft, smooth cotton yarn that has a light sheen and is perfect for delicate, wearable projects.
- Drops Safran (100% Cotton, 50g / 160m): A high-quality, long-staple cotton yarn that has a slightly glossy finish and is wonderfully soft, making it ideal for lightweight garments.
- Bernat Handicrafter Cotton (100% Cotton, 50g / 73m): Slightly thicker, but great for durability and sturdiness in more relaxed garments.
All of these yarns provide a high-quality cotton option that will give your sweater the breathable feel and drape you're looking for.
Schematic + Sizing
This pattern is a "made to measure" style, meaning it can be customized to any size using your own measurements and your preferred yarn. Here's how to adjust the pattern:
Example:
- One flower's gauge is approximately 14 cm wide by 13 cm tall.
- Your personal measurements:
- Measurement A (Shoulder Width) = 43 cm
- Measurement B (Sleeve Length) = 40 cm
- Measurement C (Body Length) = 39 cm
To calculate how many flowers you'll need:
- For Measurement A (Shoulder Width): Divide your Measurement A by the flower's width (14 cm).
Example: 43 cm ÷ 14 cm ≈ 3.1, so you'll need 4 flowers to cover Measurement A.
- For Measurement B (Sleeve Length) and Measurement C (Body Length): Divide your Measurement B or C by the flower's height (13 cm).
Example: 39 cm ÷ 13 cm ≈ 3, so you'll need 3 flowers to cover Measurements B and C.
Final calculation:
-
Width: 14 cm x 4 flowers = 56 cm (this covers my Measurement A of 43 cm with extra room). If you don't want the extra space and prefer a more exact fit, you could reduce the number of flowers or adjust your yarn tension to get closer to your exact measurement.
- Height: 13 cm x 3 flowers = 39 cm (this covers my Measurements B and C).
Tip: Adjust the number of flowers or your gauge to achieve your perfect fit, depending on the yarn and hook you're using!

ASSEMBLY
- Prepare the Body Panels: Lay the two body panels flat on a surface with the right side facing up. Starting from each side, sew 15 cm (6”) toward the middle. (Feel free to adjust this measurement based on your preference for the neck hole size.)
- Attach the Sleeves: Fold each sleeve in half and align the crease with the center of the body panels. Carefully sew the sleeves onto the body panels, ensuring they are securely attached.
- Sew the Sides: With the sweater folded in half, sew down the sides of the sleeves and along the body portion. This will create a cozy and comfortable fit.
- Weave in all of your ends.
