Mini Beanie Ornament - Crochet Pattern

Hi!

The Mini Beanie Ornament is a small, charming project that brings a cozy winter touch to any space. Its simple construction and classic shape make it perfect for beginners, quick gifts, or decorating your home with handmade accents. Whether you hang it on your Christmas tree, use it as a festive tag, or create a whole garland of little beanies, this tiny piece adds warmth and personality wherever it appears.

Inspiration

The Mini Beanie Ornament was inspired by the quiet warmth of winter, those cozy moments spent indoors while the world outside feels calm and frosty. I wanted to capture the feeling of soft knitted textures, steaming cocoa, and the simple joy of decorating the tree with handmade pieces. Its tiny ribbed shape and classic winter red make it feel like a little symbol of comfort, crafted to bring a touch of seasonal coziness into your home.

This ornament belongs to the Forest Whispers collection, reflecting the peaceful beauty of winter and the charm of small, heartfelt creations.

Yarn and supplies

For my beanie, I tried several combinations to achieve different textures and moods. Here are some of my favorites:

You can use any fine (2) weight yarn, feel free to play around! Whether you're going for something sparkly, soft, or classic, the possibilities are endless. For the traditional beanie look, I used the colorway RED for the beanie and Off-WHITE for the pompom.

Mini Beanie Ornament Pattern

This tiny beanie is crocheted flat in simple rows of half double crochet, then stitched into a tube and gently cinched at the top. From Row 2, the back-loop-only technique is used, working into the loop farthest from you to create the classic ribbed look.

Beanie

Using red yarn

Chain 22

R1: Hdc in 3rd chain from hook and in each chain across row (21)

R2-16:  Ch 2, turn, hdc in the back loop into 3rd loop from the hook, then hdc in the back loop across row (21)

At the end of row 16, the hat is a rectangle of ribbed crochet that measures approximately 4.5" (11 cm) wide and 3" (8 cm) tall.

Fold it in a half and join the edge together using slip stitches. Leave a long tail. And after that, work a running stitch around the edge of one end. And then gently pinch it closed.
